Our activity includes organising and taking part in demonstrations across the length and breadth of Scotland, raising Ukraine in trade unions and political parties through stalls, motions and fringe meetings, raising funds, and hosting regular educational and discussion events for our members.
Our main campaign right now is to Stop Seapeak, a Glasgow-based company involved in shipping Russian fossil fuels.
We have joined and supported Ukrainian community-led events in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee, in some cases lending our organising experience to refugees and students who have newly arrived in Scotland.
We have helped to raise significant amounts of money in response to appeals from Ukraine, especially from trade unions supporting their members on the frontline. We have sent donations to environmental organisations in response to Russia’s ecocide in Ukraine.
Some of our members have travelled to Ukraine, either on their own volition or as part of delegations of trade unionists. USCS member Colin Turbett travelled to Kharkiv in April 2024 and wrote about his experience for publications including The National, the Scottish Left Review and Heckle.
We have also attended Palestine solidarity demonstrations across Scotland since October 2023, making clear that opposition to illegal occupation should be universal. We have distributed hundreds of copies of a Ukrainian letter of solidarity with the Palestinian people in both Ukrainian and English.
